How to root LG Optimus One P500 ?
LG Optimus One: Best priced android phone available in India.
It is as easy as 1,2,3.
You need z4root from xda-developers. Its not available in market.
Head to z4root-xda-developers.
Note: Rooting may brick your phone and violate warranty. Do it on your own risk.
Download the same. Copy and install it on your device.
Enable USB debugging from Menu->Settings->Applications->Development->USB Debugging.
Run z4root and click on Permanent Root.
Temporary root does not work for LG Optimus.
What can I enjoy after rooting the phone?
Download and install various applications which are helpful but requires root
To name a few (You can access this list here http://www.appbrain.com/user/Sachinchavan/good-root-aps)
- Droid VNC Server : Available in market. This allows you to access your phone remotely using VNC. Through Wifi/3G/GPRS or even through Android debugger using command adb -d forward tcp:25901 tcp:5901 then using localhost:25901 as address in your VNC viewer.
- AdFree: Removes most ads in the browser and other apps. It does this by nullifying requests to known hostnames serving ads.
- Shark or Root- Like Wireshark. Traffic sniffer, works on 3G and WiFi (works on FroYo tethered mode too). To open dump use WireShark or similar software, for preview dump on phone use Shark Reader.Based on tcpdump.
- Super Manager- This is a powerful system utility for Android
- Android Terminal Emulator-This application lets you access your Android’s built-in Linux command line shell. It emulates a Digital Equipment Corporation VT-100 terminal. You can use this application to run utility programs on your device.
- Titanium Backup root – The ONLY tool that can backup, restore, freeze your apps + data + Market links! Even protected apps! 0-click Batch/scheduled backups! PRO version has 0-click batch restores, Dropbox sync, Dalvik cleaner & MORE!
- DroidWall – Android Firewall -Front-end application for the iptables Linux firewall. Allows you to restrict which apps can access the network. This is the perfect solution if you don’t have an unlimited data plan, or just wants to see your battery lasting longer.
- MarketEnabler- Heard about Google shopper or Ebay official Android App but not able to access it from market then this is the solution. A SIM Tool application to change the SIM issuer code in the running system (not permanent, will be original after reboot or flight mode). It changes(fakes) the issuer code. Whereby making market assume you are from US, Canada, etc. Hence making the applications available which are not there for your region.
Remove Stock applications which are not required.
I am not a big Bolywood fan. Hence the stock app Bollywood Ji was not for me. I was able to delete it using Super Manager’s File Explorer.
Remove copies of stock apps which are now updated but still occupies space.
e.g. Maps, Market, Gmail and other apps on Optimus one are installed on OCT 2010 and by now you already have the updated versions. But the original apps are still there in your device. So I was able to delete those apps using Super Manager’s File Explorer.
Take COMPLETE backup of your device.
Yes I mean complete. Using Titanium Backup you can backup even the system data which is not possible without root.
Save Money on your data plan.
Using AdFree or Droidwall you can decide which applications are allowed to access internet.
Access apps which are not available for your region
Using MarketEnabler access those apps which are not available in you region but enjoyed by others.
Improve Performance
Well this one is not for me. As I am getting enough juice from my phone. But if you are interested you can tweak and overclock your device.(May harm you phone)
Save more space
Relocate your cache to your sdcard eg. (browser/maps/market)
There are others things like installing custom roms, overclocking, etc. But again it is not for me.(and not for 80% of users)
Note: Rooting may brick your phone and violate warranty. Do it on your own risk.
